In 1993 HCII designed and developed GTEs
electronic mail (email) infrastructure that runs on a world wide TCP/IP network with
multiple email gateways to other networks and legacy email systems. This infrastructure
was developed in conjunction with GTEs Network Operations Center (NOC) project. The
NOC project gave GTE the ability to monitor all central office locations and the phone
network from a central location.
HCII designed and implemented:
A system for global, corporate, and local network directory
synchronization
Cross platform graphical user interfaces (GUI) to access email
A multiple server and multiple access email system on TCP/IP
A general-purpose email handling protocol that allows emails to
be read and stored anywhere on an IP network, transparent to the user and their location.
This protocol was a precursor for the Internet protocol IMAPI that later became the
Internet standard for remote email access.
A Motif GUI for monitoring email gateways, including PC based
gateways
Develop all GUIs and network protocols on the IBM RS/6000 AIX 3.2.4
and ported out to Hewlett-Packard 700 HP-UX v9.01, Digital ULTRIX v4.0, Digital Alpha
OSF/1v1/3, Silicon Graphics v5.1 and v4.0, Sun Solaris v2.3, and SunOS v4.1.3.
